Rescued Couple Tells How They Spent Horrifying 23 Hours In Sea
Previous week we reported a successful
rescue of a missing tourist couple. Now, for the first time, we have managed to get in touch with them and get some answers. We did not get all answers we wanted. But, what we got is very interesting.
On the afternoon of November 24th Kevin and his wife were spending some time in the sea. Around 15:30 they got drifted away while in their inflatable air bed. Within a few hours the sun set and it was complete darkness from every side. The night was windy, rainy and cold in the open ocean.
Waves were continuously shaking their air bed and they were afraid of falling off. Having worn anti-slip socks on their feet, they tied one wrist to the grip of air bed using sock's belt.
They were lucky to get some rain water to drink. It was really cold in the cold night. They had to drink it anyway. Apart from rain water they used their goggles to take urine to drink as it was warm. They also did meditation to keep warm.
Next day morning
weather was till rainy and gloomy at times but it began to improve. After so many hours lying down they tried to move their bodies and stretch little bit.
Around 13:30 they were spotted by a helicopter, around 14:00 they got rescued to a Coast Guard vessel where they had some tea and toasts.
After spending 23 hours in sea, fighting for life, you would expect them to be weak and traumatized. But, on this picture Kevin gives a thump up as his wife gently smiles. Neither of them actually looks like they were fighting for life a moment ago.
Kevin and his wife appreciate everything and thank the Maldives Coast Guard, Police, his butler and housekeeper of the resort. They also thank Maldives Finest for our effort in informing people of the importance of safety.
