Maafaru International Airport Reopens With Extended Runway
Maafaru International Airport (ICAO Code Name: VRDA) has successfully completed its runway extension works and resumed services for international flights. The second busiest international airport in Maldives now offers runway length of 2850 metres at a width of 45 metres. On 29 October 2024, a staff from Maafaru airport said the company is currently updating its Aeronautical Information Publication (AIP).
The peak tourism season usually starts on 1 November every year. Reopening Maafaru just before this suggests that Noonu Atoll is prepared for festive season. Maafaru airport (VRDA) is located amongst several ultraluxury resorts and many private jets fly directly to this airport. Earlier this year the airport introduced refueling facility with A1 Jet Fuel available 24 hours and parking space have been extended to cater increasing demand.
