Kuramathi Beach Villas Or Meeru? A Fresh Look For 2021
28 SEPTEMBER 2020
Dotted around the Maldivian archipelago are a myriad of luxury resorts – each one a tropical paradise in its own right, with different types of accommodation to choose from. Beach villas in Maldives are a category unto themselves; wooden sanctuaries with all your creature comforts on hand, surrounded by soft white sands and the lush vegetations of the islands are surely one of the trademarks of tropical Maldivian opulence.
Each resort has their own version of beach villas in varying degrees of luxuriousness – either one bedroom or two-bedroom villas, with indoor pools or hot tubs and vice versa. In this article, we will compare different types of beach villas from two different resorts in the Maldives – Meeru Island Resort & Spa and
Kuramathi Maldives.
Meeru Island Resort
Meeru Island Resort & Spa is situated in North Male’ Atoll on Meerufenfushi, a tiny island which is only 1.2 kilometres long and 0.35 kilometres wide. The resort has two types of beach villa options; the Beach Villa and the Jacuzzi Beach Villa. There are 77 Beach Villas and 83 Jacuzzi Beach Villas on the island, each a wooden bungalow with splendid views overlooking the beautiful turquoise lagoon. The villas come with a number of amenities, including an overhead ceiling fan, air conditioning, a minibar, complimentary tea and coffee, a personal safe, IDD telephone, colour cable TV and bathroom accessories.

The Beach Villa is 56 sqm in size and has a bedroom with a king-sized bed and an indoor daybed, a partially open-air bathroom and a private porch with seating for in-villa dining. The villa can accommodate up to 2 adults and 2 children at a time.
Jacuzzi Beach Villa, Meeru Island Resort
On the other hand, the Jacuzzi Beach Villa – at 80 sqm in size – has a king-sized four-poster bed in the bedroom, a partially open-air bathroom and a private porch with a seating area. The bathroom leads out into a walled courtyard with a Jacuzzi for two, as well as a wooden sundeck, a sun umbrella and sun loungers. This villa can hold up to a maximum of 3 occupants at a time.

Kuramathi has five different categories of beach villas to choose from – the Beach Villa, the Beach Bungalow, the Superior Beach Villa, the Deluxe Beach Villa and the Two-Bedroom Beach House. The villas are constructed in traditional Maldivian island-style with thatched roofs and cool, wooden interiors. Each villa comes with a fan, air conditioning, an in-room safe, coffee and tea making facilities, a flat-screen TV with cable and IDD telephone as well as Wi-Fi and complimentary toiletries and bathroom amenities.

Meeru or Kuramathi?
From the beach villas mentioned above, Kuramathi clearly has a lot more options for you to choose from; depending on your preferences and needs, you can opt for any villa from the five categories. On the other hand, although limited in choices, the prices at Meeru are more economically viable, especially for the All Inclusive Plus packages which includes a variety of recreational activities as well at no added cost – an especially suitable option for water enthusiasts and those travelling with kids.
However, the winning point here for Kuramathi is the availability of their Two-Bedroom Beach House, which is both cheaper and more convenient when travelling together with other people, as opposed to renting two separate villas at almost double the price.
One thing is guaranteed, no matter which type of accommodation you choose for your vacation, sunny weather, amazing oceanic views and excellent service are a given at any resort in the Maldives!
