Kuramathi Beach Villas Or Meeru? A Fresh Look For 2021
28 SEPTEMBER 2020
Dotted around the Maldivian archipelago are a myriad of luxury resorts – each one a tropical paradise in its own right, with different types of accommodation to choose from. Beach villas in Maldives are a category unto themselves; wooden sanctuaries with all your creature comforts on hand, surrounded by soft white sands and the lush vegetations of the islands are surely one of the trademarks of tropical Maldivian opulence.
Each resort has their own version of beach villas in varying degrees of luxuriousness – either one bedroom or two-bedroom villas, with indoor pools or hot tubs and vice versa. In this article, we will compare different types of beach villas from two different resorts in the Maldives – Meeru Island Resort & Spa and Kuramathi
Meeru Island Resort
Meeru Island Resort & Spa is situated in North Male’ Atoll on Meerufenfushi, a tiny island which is only 1.2 kilometres long and 0.35 kilometres wide. The resort has two types of beach villa options; the Beach Villa and the Jacuzzi Beach Villa. There are 77 Beach Villas and 83 Jacuzzi Beach Villas on the island, each a wooden bungalow with splendid views overlooking the beautiful turquoise lagoon. The villas come with a number of amenities, including an overhead ceiling fan, air conditioning, a minibar, complimentary tea and coffee, a personal safe, IDD telephone, colour cable TV and bathroom accessories.

The Beach Villa is 56 sqm in size and has a bedroom with a king-sized bed and an indoor daybed, a partially open-air bathroom and a private porch with seating for in-villa dining. The villa can accommodate up to 2 adults and 2 children at a time.

On the other hand, the Jacuzzi Beach Villa – at 80 sqm in size – has a king-sized four-poster bed in the bedroom, a partially open-air bathroom and a private porch with a seating area. The bathroom leads out into a walled courtyard with a Jacuzzi for two, as well as a wooden sundeck, a sun umbrella and sun loungers. This villa can hold up to a maximum of 3 occupants at a time.
Garden Room, Meeru Island Resort
An additional type of beach villa also offered at Meeru Island is the Garden Room; a 50 sqm bungalow surrounded by tropical greenery and coconut palms. Decorated with cool, soothing tones and a minimalist white interior, the villa has a bedroom with a king-sized bed and a daybed, an indoor bathroom (not partially open-air) and a wooden sundeck. These villas – located near the resort’s main pool – are suitable for a maximum occupancy of 2 adults and 2 children.
The rooms at Meeru come with two types of bookings; The Full Board rate – which is inclusive of breakfast, lunch, dinner and free internet – and the All Inclusive Plus rate which includes all the Full Board rate benefits as well as a minibar for the room, unlimited alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks (with meals), selected recreational activity packages and access to the resort’s fitness centre and sports courts.

Kuramathi Maldives – which is located in Rasdhoo Atoll – is an island about 1.8 kilometres long. The resort boasts long stretches of sandbanks, sparkling azure waters and verdant natural vegetation, which is mainly left untouched and available for guests to explore.
Kuramathi has five different categories of beach villas to choose from – the Beach Villa, the Beach Bungalow, the Superior Beach Villa, the Deluxe Beach Villa and the Two-Bedroom Beach House. The villas are constructed in traditional Maldivian island-style with thatched roofs and cool, wooden interiors. Each villa comes with a fan, air conditioning, an in-room safe, coffee and tea making facilities, a flat-screen TV with cable and IDD telephone as well as Wi-Fi and complimentary toiletries and bathroom amenities.
Beach Villa, Kuramathi
The Beach Villa is 70 sqm in size and has a bedroom with a king-sized four-poster bed, a partially open-air bathroom with a rainfall shower and an outdoor sundeck with sun loungers.
The Beach Bungalow is slightly larger in size at 90 sqm and has a king-sized four-poster bed, an indoor daybed and an open-air bathroom with a rainfall shower and an attached whirlpool hot tub while the outdoor sundeck features sun lounger and an in-villa dining area.
The 90 sqm Superior Beach Villa is in a unique circular shape, featuring a king-sized bed as the main centrepiece, as well as an outdoor sundeck with an in-built outdoor daybed and sun loungers. The bathroom is open-air and has an adjacent walled courtyard with an outdoor whirlpool bath.
Deluxe Beach Villa, Kuramathi
The Deluxe Beach Villa is a more expansive space – 95 sqm in size – with a king-sized bed, an indoor daybed and an outdoor sundeck with sun loungers and an in-built daybed. The bathroom is partially open-air with a rainfall shower and a bathtub, as well as an adjoined walled outdoor garden area with a wooden deck with a whirlpool hot tub and a daybed for lounging.
Two Bedroom Beach House, Kuramathi
The Two-Bedroom Beach House is the luxurious epitome of beach villas at Kuramathi – a two-storey beach house with two bedrooms and separate living spaces and entrances. Each bedroom comes with its own king-sized bed and indoor daybed, as well as an adjacent open-air bathroom with a standalone tub and an outdoor bath court with a rainfall shower. The outdoor sundeck features sun loungers and an in-villa dining area. The beach houses are 205 sqm in size and can occupy up to 6 adults or 4 adults and 2 children at a time – perfect for families or friends on vacation together!
Kuramathi has two available rates for guests at the moment; the Kuramathi Getaway rates – which are applicable from 1 October 2020 to 31 October 2021, and includes free breakfast, lunch and dinner at the resort’s main buffet restaurant – and the Full Board rate, which is inclusive of breakfast, lunch and dinner excluding beverages. Meeru or Kuramathi?
From the beach villas mentioned above, Kuramathi clearly has a lot more options for you to choose from; depending on your preferences and needs, you can opt for any villa from the five categories. On the other hand, although limited in choices, the prices at Meeru are more economically viable, especially for the All Inclusive Plus packages which includes a variety of recreational activities as well at no added cost – an especially suitable option for water enthusiasts and those travelling with kids.
However, the winning point here for Kuramathi is the availability of their Two-Bedroom Beach House, which is both cheaper and more convenient when travelling together with other people, as opposed to renting two separate villas at almost double the price.
One thing is guaranteed, no matter which type of accommodation you choose for your vacation, sunny weather, amazing oceanic views and excellent service are a given at any resort in the Maldives!
