Low Season Discounts And Free Nights On Maldives Holiday

I have heard some tourists say Maldives was getting expensive and they no longer could afford holiday every year. Apart from recently developed guesthouse holidays there comes low season to Maldives tourism industry. June, July and August is a period that offers exceptionally low prices on Maldives resorts and liveboards.

I have just gone through rates for different resorts on Maldives Finest Top 50 and noticed majority of resorts have remarkably dropped their prices during the low season. To be more specific, a discount of 25% upto 35% have been observed. But this is not all.



On top of the special offers there resorts that give free night offers. For instance you book 5 nights to get 1 extra night for Free. For the free night you still have to pay government taxes, but nothing more, most of the resorts even give the same meal plan without a charge. To be eligible for free night offers you need to stay minimum 5 nights, preferably 7 nights, depending on the resort this duration varies. But, if you do plan for a minimum of 7 nights you are most likely to get 1 additional night FREE OF CHARGE. If you want more additional nights, a minimum of 10 nights upto 14 is required.

Do note that not all resorts give free night offers. There are resorts that only gives discounted rates, but not free nights. Others do not discount, instead provide the free night. Some gives both. Now you may be feeling “wow” in your heart, but I am not finished yet.

Free room upgrades, meal plan upgrades and free activities such as water sports are common elements of low season special offers.

If you are coming in groups, there is more. You should get more, ask your tour operator for free goodies.

How to get the low season special offers

Big international tour operators often offer flights and hotel together as a package. You need to check the contents to see what is included and what is not. Most of these operators automatically include the free nights, discounts and free upgrades. Being big, it takes time for these tour operators to go through all channels and process the latest discounts before it reaches customers. Smaller but well established agents, especially local agents, in this case provides latest discounts and free offers.

Local agents usually do not sell flights. So you need to book your flight on your own. Important thing here is that you check availability of your flight, book the hotel with your agent and then book the flight. The agent who sell hotel or resort should provide you transfer costs based on the type of transportation practiced by the resort. Resorts close to airports usually offer transfer by speedboat, other by seaplane which flies only in day time. See this map to locate resorts close to airports. Based on type of transfer you may be required to stay overnight in city hotel or guesthouse, there are many such hotels in Hulhumale and some in Male’ City as well. Recommended is to stay in Hulhumale’ which is connected to airport by roadway, just a 10 minute drive which makes everything more convenient. For your return, if your international flight is at night the resort would arrange seaplane in the day time, usually late after but not always, as it depends on seaplane schedule.

The key to take advantage of the special offers and last minute discounts in the low season is to communicate with the agent before you book. Published rates on websites sometimes do not include the discount part. Because there are so many resorts and hotels, with several room categories. To calculate and update it takes time. So to simply ask an agent with other question you may have is the best approach. These days many agents have live chat, Whatsapp or Viber.

List of resorts that give free nights and discounts

I was initially thinking to come up with a list of resorts to make things easy for tourists to book and take advantage of the season special offers. But, I noticed the offers slightly vary from agent to agent and duration of special offers are relatively short. For sample example Agent A gives you free non-motorized water sports during the stay, but Agent B may give free meal update or room upgrade to next category depending on availability. Despite the fact that low season run through June, July, August, a relatively long period, the special offers often do not last long, especially the kind of offers that gives really good value. So, stick to the best approach of kindly asking an agent for special offers and free nights along with other questions you may have.

If you don't have specific resort that you want to stay, new resorts often give great value for money. Read reviews on Tripadvisor and when you are confident just go for it.
