My Samsung Galaxy S7 Almost Started A Fire, Changed My Habit.
02 JUNE 2017
BLOG: Last year Samsung recalled their Galaxy Note 7 series of phones worldwide. Ever since then there has been reports that smartphones are catching fire. There has been reports that some of the iphones have also caught fire, credibility of the those sources are questionable while the possibility is likely.
I have seen some reports that claim Samsung Galaxy S7 also catches fires. I didn't believe this before. Now I believe many of the smartphones could potentially start a fire, not only Samsung.
I have been using my Samsung Galaxy S7 for the past 3 years. I love Samsung, in the recent years they always came up with the
best smartphone camera in the market, the design is great and feel premium when I hold my phone. There are many other good features of Samsung phone that you are familiar with.
Last week, I put my phone on charger and went away. I came back about an hour later and when I checked my phone it was overheating, it was so hot that I could not hold it. I used my shirt and put the finger print. The screen showed it didnt charge at all, battery indicator showed the same 6%. I checked the cable if it was not properly plugged in, cable connection was perfect. I unplugged it and kept for a while to cool down, then restarted the phone before putting it on charger again. It started charging and this time it did not start overheating.
I am not a tech expert to trace the fault. But, having come across this incident I was thinking of the possibilities. I used the phone for 3 years and this did not happen before. There were very few times my battery went that low, usually I plug in the charge when the indicator drops below 15%.
One possible reason, I thought, was some part of the software stopped working properly. Because of this it obstructed the charging process. Imagine a water pipe, if something gets struck inside it would build pressure causing horse to expand. Likewise I thought the charge might have ended up somewhere when it got blocked by a malfunctioning software function.
Software malfunction could happen to any phone. Samsung Galaxy S7 comes with fast charging. So, it had more power entering the device than some other phones.
After the incident I decided not to trust any smartphone on this matter. Any phone on charger could potentially ignite a fire, this is what I am believing now. An incident like this may never happen again, but if it happens it would be devastating my life. So, I want to stay at a safe distance. I am still using my Samsung smartphone that I always loved. I still love it. But, I when I connect it to the charger I always keep it on a hard surface. From the amount of heat I felt to my hand that day I believe it could start a fire but only with a fire-prone material next to it. Before my phone used to stay very close to the curtains, sometimes touching it. Now, I make sure no fabric touches it. I still leave it on the wooden table. Even though wooden catches fire the table top is hard material. It is not easy to start a fire on. But, I would prefer a glass table to leave my phone while charging.
I was lucky that my phone did not start a fire that day, it was a close call. I am writing this post in hope that some of you will take some precautions while leaving your phone on charger, no matter which brand or model you use I advice to leave it only on a hard surface that does not catch fire easily.
