Wish to witness untouched perfection of pure paradise? Head to one of the many sandbanks across Maldives. These are timeless moments in the bliss of nature. A sandbar that is spotlessly glowing amid turquoise lagoon is wonder of nature in many ways. The inhabitants of these little patches of sand in the middle of nowhere are the sea birds, most commonly the black and white terns.
When you observe these birds you will only end up believing they are on honeymoon. They are possibly more romantic that you.
White Terns get in to relationships before they become adults. If you happen to catch one of a pair the remaining
would not fly away. That is because these terns are ready to sacrifice life to their partners. They often hunt fish and bring the catch to feed the partner.
Sandbank are magical. Most of these spots submerge in the high tide and reforms in low tide. That is a natural process to cleanse the sand. Waves and sea currents help wash and polish every grain of sand before rolling to the right position which once complete looks amazing. This process usually takes place once a day and it is not just the surface that gets cleansing, the seasonal erosion functions like a biannual maintenance of the amazing ecosystem.
The hermit crabs and breach crabs have their own responsibilities while living on virgin sandbanks. Tiny particles floated off the reefs gets washed up on the white soft beaches and they are picked up and eaten by the inhabitant crabs. They are actually waiting such things to reach the island. Human beings can’t do the job as efficient as these little creatures.
Next time you visit a sandbank, do take a picture of a crab and share with your friends, or share this story with your friends. Appreciate beautiful things in life and let beauty be part of your life!
